She is survived by her husband of 72 years, John Albert Hargrove. Margaret was born on December 12, 1932 to Margaret and Elmer Baker, in Independence, Missouri. Her father passed when she was only 8 years old, and she always regretted not having him in her life. She married her husband on June 9, 1950 in Independence. They have 5 children, Nancy Goodrich (Bert) of Las Vegas; Joan Lynn (George, deceased) of Independence MO; Paula Mackesty of Independence MO; John Allan (Beth) of Ottawa KS; and Mary Wilcox (Don) of Oak Grove MO.
Margaret was a Charter Member of Susquehanna Baptist where she played the organ for over 20 years and continued her service as a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Independence where she taught bible classes and sang in the choir. Even though obtained late in life she was proud to be a member of the Daughter’s of the American Revolution. She was very knowledgeable as she read the Bible at least ten times. She is remembered for receiving many mother of the year awards. She worked 10 years for the Independence Power and Light Company as the first female employee, and the Social Security Administration where she retired after 20 years of service. After retirement she and John enjoyed traveling in their motorhome visiting many of their family and friends across the country.
Margaret had an active mind and loved to read, do cross word puzzles, and watch quiz shows on TV. She took much joy in getting the quiz show answers ahead of everyone else.
She is preceded in death by her sisters Jean Philson, Mildred Komm, Elizabeth Johnson; and brothers Noel Baker, Vernon Baker, Robert Lee Baker; and granddaughter Laura Beth Lynn.
Coming from a large family Margaret always said we were poor but didn’t know it. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her grandchildren include Tammy Lynn, Nancy Lynn, Johnny Lynn, Nathan Ahuna (Sharon), Josh Ahuna (Shannon), Summer Bottenberg (Brett), Patricia Hargrove, Andrea Crandall, Christopher Wilcox (Tai), Dustin Mackesty, David Mackesty, Brittany Mallinson, Holly Hoch (Ben), Van Goodrich (Monique). The world seems empty to those who knew her.
