E. Marcella Langford


Ethel Marcella Langford, 91, of Bates City, Missouri, passed away Monday, November 6, 2017 at her home.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 10th at Bates City Restoration Branch Church; burial in Greenton Cemetery, Odessa, MO.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the church.


Marcella was born January 10, 1926, in Lamoni, Iowa, the daughter of Walter Laverne and Ruth May (Hudson) Schenck.  She had a heart of gold and her faith never wavered.  She was always forgiving and never knew an enemy.  Marcella was an artist since her childhood, attended the Kansas City Art Institute, and gave away most of her artwork.  She was a talented seamstress and loved sewing for everyone.  She was a nurse’s aide at the SAN (Independence Sanitarium Hospital), and cared for many during her life.


Marcella was preceded in death by two husbands: Harold Arthur Talmage, and Earl Alexander Langford; two sons: Richard Arthur Talmage and Donald Jesse Talmage; brother, Joseph Schenck; and sister, Laura (Schenck) Gibson.


She is survived by three daughters: Marcella Ann (Talmage) Pellett & her husband Patrick, and Julia Ruth (Talmage) Lamb, all of Middleberg, FL, and Tammy (Talmage) Gilbert of Bates City; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Catharine (Schenck) Whiteman and Florine (Schenck) VanTuyl, both of Lee’s Summit, MO.
