John Dominguez Salazar Sr.


John Dominguez Salazar Sr., 88, of Independence, MO passed away on May 28, 2022 at St. Luke’s Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri.

John was born May 26, 1934 in Morrill, Nebraska to Eleno Salazar and Julia Dominguez Salazar. John grew up in the Kansas City West Side and graduated from Bishop Lillis High School in 1953. In 1954 John married Darlene Dalton. Together they had three children, Sheri, John Jr., and Anthony. John retired from Western Electric/AT&T after 34 years of employment. John played a vital role in establishing the Kansas City chapter of the AT&T HISPA organization (Hispanic Association of AT&T Employees.) After his retirement from AT&T, John went on to work another several years for the USPS. John was a devout Christian. He loved his church, Amazing Grace Baptist Church, and his God. John lived his life helping others. He was truly a friend to all, and found someone he knew wherever he went. John was happiest when he was with his family, and his family was happiest when they were around him.

He is preceded in death by his wife Darlene Salazar, father Eleno Salazar, mother Julia Salazar, brothers Eleno II and Martin Salazar Sr, and son-in-law Jeff Lin.

John is survived by his daughter Sheri Link, two sons John Jr. and Anthony Salazar; 2 grandchildren, Jon-Elliott Link (Natalia), Jameson Link (Matt); 2 great-grandchildren, Matthew & Benjamin Link; and his 2 favorite cats Clark and Matilda.

A private memorial service will be held at Amazing Grace Baptist Church, on June 25, 2022 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made in his name to Amazing Grace Baptist Church, PO Box 3131, Kansas City, KS 66103.
