William J. Kirk


William J. “Bill” Kirk, 80, of Odessa, MO (formerly of Urbana, MO) passed away Monday, March 1, 2010 in his home. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Wednesday, March 3 at Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove. Funeral services will be held at 10 am Thursday, March 4 at the funeral home. Graveside services will be 2 pm Thursday at Mission Ridge Cemetery, Urbana MO.

Bill was born on September 8, 1927 in Macon, MO, and the son of Fount B. and Mildred A. (Johnston) Kirk. He married Dolores J. Reynolds on December 29, 1957. They loved and adored all of his 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Bill was an avid fisherman and fiddle player. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict. Bill had been employed by Allis Chalmers from 1965 until retiring in 1991. It also worked for the Les Mitchell Quarry in Bates city, and, at one time, he owned and operated a Champlain gas station in Odessa, MO. 

Over the years, Bill had attended both Greenton Baptist Church, Odessa, and Concord Baptist Church, Bates City. 

Bill was preceded in death by four brothers: Wendell, James, Gale and Rody Kirk, and one sister: Mary Keller. 

His survivors include his wife of 52 years: Dolores Kirk of the home; one son & daughter-in-law: Bruce & Cindy Kirk of Bates City, MO three daughters & son-in-law’s: Marcia & Cliff Highfill of Odessa, MO, Bonita & Larry Barker of Odessa, MO, and Alice & David Griffin of Lee’s Summit; one sister & brother-in-law: Irene & Donald Helphrey of Odessa; and one brother & sister-in-law: Fount Jr. & Fran Kirk of Phoenix, AZ.
