Marcia D. Hord


Marcia D. Hord, 70, of Kansas City, MO, passed away unexpectedly July 1, 2023, at her home. Marcy, as she was fondly called by her family and friends, was born December 27, 1952 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Verne and Ruby Hord. She grew up in Oak Grove, MO alongside her three siblings. As a child, she delighted in riding her horses through the pastures of “the farm,” and spending her summers with family in Webster, SD. As a young adult, she enjoyed participating in competitive horseback riding.

Marcy graduated from Oak Grove High School and went on to earn her degree in accounting from Central Missouri State University to become a certified public account. Following graduation, she began her career working for companies such as Standard Oil and Boatman’s Bank before eventually venturing out to become a self-employed C.P.A.

In her personal life, Marcy held a deep passion for horses and greatly looked forward to attending the America Royal each year. She held a certification as a Certified Master Gardener and loved spending time in her beautiful, well-crafted backyard garden. She was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend. Her kindness and love knew no limits. Her willingness to help others was unmatched. She loved spending time with her family and had a very special bond with each member.

Marcy was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Sheila Honig and Shannon Overbay. She is survived by her brother, Bryan Hord and sister-in-law Dianne of Lone Jack, MO; brother-in-law, Ron Honig of Lee’s Summit, MO; nieces, Brooke Overbay-Brooks, Amanda Dowler, Dr. Rachel Honig Krakosky; great-nieces Kendall and Waylon Brooks; great-nephews Jackson and Aidan Dowler, Alexander Krakosky; cousins, Colin Johnson, Lance Johnson, Deb Canton; and many special extended family and friends.

Graveside services will be held Sunday, July 9, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in Sni-Mills Cemetery, 38308 E Colbern Rd, Lone Jack, MO.  In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made in Marcia’s name to Ronald McDonald House.

  2. I knew Marcia only too briefly but she made a lasting impact with her friendliness, kindness, positivity and generosity. A truly special person I was fortunate to know. Her help with my taxes was invaluable during a very stressful time of my life, and I always looked forward to catching up with her each year when tax season rolled around. My condolences to her family at this sad time.
