Kenneth Darrell Ballinger, 74, of Lee’s Summit, MO passed away Saturday, July 30, 2016. A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 7, 2016 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley. A celebration of life will follow the visitation at Captain’s Sports Bar, 27909 E. Colbern Rd., Lake Lotawana, MO 64086. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to K.U. Endowment Cancer Research, 3901 Rainbow Blvd., Kansas City, KS 66106.
Ken was born in Redlands, California, the son of Reuben and Eunice Ballinger. He married Peggy Geller on July 2, 1992. Ken retired after 20 years at the Federal Reserve Bank, he worked as a maintenance engineer supervisor. He had his own construction company for many years before that.
Ken was always very active and had many hobbies. He started woodworking and auto body as a young man. He enjoyed softball, bowling, golf and fishing with his family and friends. Ken loved being with family and really enjoyed playing with his grandchildren, he was there Papa Ken. A few years back he took up motorcycle riding and bought not 1 but 2 Harleys. Ken was always helping out anyone who needed a hand, he especially enjoyed assisting his son Ken Jr. in his construction business. He will truly be missed by all.
Ken is preceded in death by his father, Reuben L. Ballinger. His survivors include his wife of 24 years, Peggy Ballinger of the home; mother, Eunice Ballinger of Independence, MO; daughter: Christy Curley (Mike) of Lee’s Summit, MO; son, Ken Ballinger (Chris) of Grain Valley, MO; stepson, Chad Manuel of Lake Latawana, MO; grandchildren, Nick, Travis (Luminita), Hannah, Andrea, Jessica, Alyssa, Trenton, and Haven; brother, Jim Ballinger of Kansas City, MO; sister, Pamela Guerro (Augie) of Independence, MO; niece, Kelly Trieb and family.
