Robert “Bob” Bernard Barkus, 89, of Oak Grove, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Blue Springs, MO. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 23rd at Oak Grove United Methodist Church; burial in Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Bob was born December 28, 1929, in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, the son of Vincent and Elizabeth (Kurela) Barkus. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps and Air Force, retiring as a Major in 1974 after 24 years of service. Bob was a Social Studies and Industrial Arts Teacher at Oak Grove High School. He loved golf, coached golf at the high school, and worked at the Pro Shop at Bent Oak Golf Course. Bob was also a National Park Service Ranger at the Truman Home in Independence. He was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; twin daughters, Sarah and Mary in 1976; and brother, William Barkus.
His survivors include his wife, Barbara Barkus of the home; four children: Robert Barkus Jr. of Oak Grove, David Barkus (Kathy) of Lawrence, KS, Susan Barkus (Scott) of Williamsburg, VA, and Carol Ann Turner (Mike) of Leavenworth, KS; and four grandchildren: Matt Barkus, Joshua Barkus, Anna Barkus-Hough, and Aris Barkus-Hough.
