Michael “Mike” Payton Jones, 73, of Belton, MO, previously of Oak Grove, MO, passed away on February 22, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends.
Born on August 29, 1951, in Hannibal, MO, Mike graduated from Rich Hill High School in 1969 and served in the US Army from 1971-73. Mike lived his life with a deep appreciation for the simple joys—fishing on quiet waters, boating across any lake he could find, and always leading with fairness and integrity. He was a man of strong values and was known for his honesty and the fierce love he had for his family—a love that was returned just as strongly.
Mike is survived by his loving wife, Vicki Jean Martin; daughters Brandi Michelle Jones Thomsen and Lindsay Nicole Jones Kitch (Chris); son Matthew West Golden (Brooke); and nephew Jeffery Derr (Nikki). He was the proud and adoring grandfather of seven grandchildren: Harper, Tully, and Turk Michael; Dakota and Aspen; Madi and Lily. His love for them was boundless, and they cherished every moment spent with him. He was preceded in death by his father, Felix McCrocklin Jones; his mother, Amiee Marie Gordy; and his sister, Felicia Ruth Jones.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mike’s honor to Friends of Greenlawn, Care of Heuser Funeral Home, where his mother, sister, and niece are laid to rest: Box 42, Rich Hill, Missouri 64779.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, March 16, 2025, from 2-4pm at Meet Me on Main, 515 Main Street, Belton, MO 64012.
Mike’s warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
