Donna Marie Squires (Huxley), 77, of Blue Springs, MO, passed away September 19, 2025. She was born December 21, 1947 to Clara (Hoffman) and James Huxley in Seattle, WA.
In her early childhood, Donna’s family moved to Kansas City, Missouri. While the parents obtained jobs and housing, their three children were sent to live with family friends Betty and Earl Sharp in Harrisonville, MO. Some of Donna’s fondest memories were formed during her time spent with them in the loving, peaceful, rural home surrounded by flower gardens and animals. Betty and Earl were unable to have children of their own, and asked permission to adopt the girls. Donna’s parents returned for the children and settled the family in the city. Although much of her childhood was spent in Kansas City, the family frequently moved and she graduated from high school in Portland, Oregon. She married Richard Squires on June 1, 1968 and they made a home together in Missouri near his family (who welcomed her as one of their own). They were married for 57 years and lovingly raised three daughters.
Donna worked diligently her whole life. In her youth, she loved to babysit children in her neighborhood. As a young woman, she was employed by several car dealerships, and eventually retired from the US Postal Service after 30 years. Most of her civil service was spent handling complaints in the Consumer Affairs department. She was a lifelong member of the Catholic church, and her faith in God guided her throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Richard (Dickie) Pedigo, and her sister Darlene (Dolly) Hoffman. She is survived by her devoted husband, Richard Squires, of the home; daughters Christina Merritt of Naples, FL, Amy Sanders (Mike) of Lee’s Summit, MO, and Beth Markworth (Brian) of Blue Springs, MO; sisters Deborah Huxley and Debbie Alexander; brother James Thomas Colley; eleven grandchildren (Zachary, Samantha, Tyler; Ashlee, Melissa, Josiah, Levi; Maygen, Emma, Brett, Georgia); and three great-grandchildren.
