Leslie Errol Gibson, 81, of Grain Valley, MO, passed away on October 10, 2025. He was born on July 16, 1944 in Denver, Colorado, to Lester Gibson and Norma Farrell. He grew up in Greeley alongside his brother, Norman “Pat” Charles Gibson, with whom he shared a close bond throughout their lives.
From an early age, he was fascinated by how things worked and was always drawn to mechanical projects, science, and the wonders of nature. That same curiosity shaped his lifelong career as a skilled machinist. He dedicated forty years to Missouri Public Service, where his talent, precision, and work ethic earned him the respect of everyone he worked with. Even later in life, he never lost that sense of wonder — his favorite show was How It’s Made, a perfect reflection of his lifelong interest in how things come together.
After retiring, he turned his focus to his homestead — ten beautiful acres south of Grain Valley. There, he built a peaceful retreat, poured his energy into his gardens each year, and cultivated not only plants but also a love for creativity, spending many hours painting beautiful pieces that reflected his appreciation for life and nature. He also loved animals and shared his home with many beloved pets over the years. Those who knew him remember his infectious smile and the way his eyes twinkled whenever he laughed or shared a story.
Above all, he was an incredible father who was always there for his three children, Cheryl, LaDonna and Jason. He was the dad who taught his kids how to work on cars, fix things, and approach life’s challenges with patience and practicality. His face lit up whenever he saw his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought him endless joy.
He is survived by his children Cheryl Bennett, LaDonna Gibson-Nichelson (Rusty), and Jason Gibson (Shelly), and his grandchildren Allura (Trevor), Jeremy, Alissa, Jayda, Jason Eric, Jamie (Anthony), Bella, AJ, Julia, and his great-grandchildren Ariah, Everett, Amelia, Remy, Clyde, Arlo, Violet, Braylon. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Norman “Pat” Charles Gibson, his son-in-law, Jon Charles Bennett, and his grandson, Tanner James Bennett.
Leslie will be remembered for his steady presence, kind heart, and the way he used his hands — and his heart — to make the world around him better.
