Randall K. Carpenter


Randall Keith Carpenter, 70, of Independence, MO, passed away, Monday, May 6, 2019 at Monterey Park Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Independence, MO, following a lengthy illness.  Visitation will be from 2:00-3:00 p.m. on Monday, May 13th, at Royer’s New Salem Funeral Home, Independence, with a Celebration of Life service to follow at 2:00 p.m.   A private interment ceremony will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Asana Hospice and Palliative Care, 9001 State Line Rd, Suite 120, Kansas City, MO 64114.  The family also requests that all attendess honor Randy by wearing your Kansas City Royals gear.

Randy was born October 8, 1948 in Kansas City, MO, to Acel A. and G. Ina (Hurford) Carpenter. He graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1966. Randy was in management early in his work career until he moved to California. While in California, he made roofing his employment. Upon moving back to the Kansas City area, he became an entrepreneur and opened Randy’s Ambush, a drinking establishment in Olathe, KS. Randy enjoyed great success in the business until the early 1990’s when the bar was closed for good. Randy turned his attention to forklift operation until he retired in 2010. Randy enjoyed the outdoors and you could often find him camping alone during the summer. He also enjoyed canoe trips, K.C. Chiefs football and K.C. Royals baseball. Randy never met a stranger and made many lasting friendships.

Randy is survived by his son, Jeffery R. Carpenter and his wife Lesley of the home; three grandchildren, Bryer and Sam Carpenter of Independence and Jenna Frasier of the home; one great-grandchild, Roanin Carpenter of Independence; his brother, Ron Carpenter and his wife Linda of Cape Coral, FL; two sisters: Jeanne Thomas and husband Marvin of Fox Lake, IL, and Mert (Carpenter) Winters of Raytown, MO; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Acel A. and G. Ina (Hurford) Carpenter; two brothers, Charles F. Carpenter and Clinton H. Carpenter; and four sisters: Dorothy Owen, Betty Flathers, Penny Brown, and Helen Katz.
