Arlie G. Cummins Jr.


Arlie Glenn Cummins Jr., 79, of Bates City, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at his home.  A memorial visitation will be held from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 17th at Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove.

Arlie was born June 20, 1936, in Oak Grove, Missouri, the son of Arlie Glenn Sr. and Clara Mable (Jackson) Cummins.  He graduated from Oak Grove High School, where he excelled in football and track,  in 1954, and attended William Jewell College and Midwest Theological Seminary.  He had many interests and talents, and his vocations and avocations included race car driver, Baptist minister, driver and dispatcher with Ruan Trucking, owner of Cummins Trucking Company, paving-stone constuction expert, wood-worker, bowler, traveler, avid reader of western literature and cowboy movies, musician and songwriter.

He was preceded in death by his older brother, Jim Cummins; and is survived by a brother, David Cummins of Oak Grove, and sister, Lona Gercone of Farmington, MO, and Donna Griffith of Bates City, whom he married June 27, 1987.

His survivors include a son, Frank Cummins of Oak Grove; two daughters: Tammy Grosserode and Sarah (Carl) Moore, all of Liberty, MO; three grandsons: Frankie Cummins of Liberty, Sam Cummins of Lee’s Summit, MO, and Cole Cummins of Kansas City, MO; granddaughter, Madeline Grosserode of Kansas City; two stepsons, Danny & Donnie Griffith; three step-granddaughters: Brandy (Damen) Westerhold, Nicole (Corky) Lockhart, and Victoria (Brian) Barker, all of Odessa; and seven step great-grandchildren.
