John Edward Davis, 76, of Grain Valley, MO passed away in his home the morning of Friday, July 28, 2017. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 3, 2017, at Church of the Resurrection Blue Springs Campus, 601 NE Jefferson St., Blue Springs, MO 64014. Rev. Penny Ellwood will officiate. Visitation will also be held at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services. Memorial donations may be made to City Union Mission.
John was born on October 16, 1940 in Bolckow, MO to Clarence and Alise Marie Davis. He grew up in Milford, Ohio before moving to Fillmore, MO in 1957, graduating from Fillmore High School in 1958. John married Judith Ann Lemmon of Fillmore, MO on April 9, 1959. They were nearly inseparable during their 58 years of marriage – she was his one true love. Their marriage served as a model of strength, character, and quiet love for their family and everyone who knew them.
Upon high school graduation, John attended Draughon’s College of Commerce where he studied drafting for a year. He then entered the U.S. Army where he served in Germany as a drafter, building bridges. He left the military in 1962 and went to work for Western Electric as a pole climber. He spent 29 years working in a variety of roles for Western Electric, AT&T, Long Lines and Southwestern Bell before retiring in 1991. After retirement, John and Judy spent 2 years in Mexico City, where he consulted for Telefonos del Mexico. John found God at a young age. During challenging times, he was comforted by the teachings of the Bible. Throughout his life, he was grateful for his many blessings and in turn dedicated his life to selflessly providing for his family, friends, and those in need.
John appreciated every day God gave him. In his later years, his friendships, belief in heaven, and his wife’s love helped him through the most difficult times.
John is survived by his wife Judy, his daughters Deborah (Pat) Derry, Teresa (Dale) Smith, Melanie (Mike) Kidder, six grandchildren Dustin and Cassie Ware, John Noah Paul, Kyle and Sam Kidder and Andrew Smith, and two great grandchildren Siddalee and McKynzie. He was preceded in death by his parents, and granddaughter, Jennifer Ware.
