Jean L. Dent


Jean L. (Maxwell) Turner Dent went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Saturday, November 14, 2015 at the age of 83. She had been battling Alzheimer’s for the last eight years.

She was born and raised in Centerville, IA, where she was an honors student in both high school and the Centerville Junior College. She was active in church and community before moving to Kansas City, MO in 1952, to accept a position at the Hallmark Cards Inc. There she worked in the accounts payable department until she married.

She married L. Lyle Turner, Jr. in 1959, and they built their home in Independence, MO. They had two sons, James E Turner and William L Turner.  Jean and Lyle’s joy was short lived as Lyle was killed in an industrial accident in June of 1965.

Jean was a single mom for five years until she met Edward H. Dent. They dated and were married in 1970.  Through this event she gained two more children.  These children are a daughter, Susan J (Dent) Bennett and Edward H Dent, Jr., whom she loved as her own.  Ed and Jean were married 38 years. They both served the Lord in the church in the community where they lived, in whatever positions they were called to serve.

Jean was preceded in death by the love of her life, Edward in May, 2008. She was also preceded in death by her parents, James K. and Amie (Jones) Maxwell, two of her brothers, James (Jay) and Don Maxwell as well as her dear sister, Lora Lea (Maxwell) Maupin.

Her survivors include her twin brother, Jack Maxwell of Grover Beach, CA; her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and J. D. Bennett of Independence, MO; her sons and their wives: Edward Jr. and Shelly Dent of Pryor OK, James and Angela Turner of Fairview Heights IL, and William and Mary Turner of Independence MO; Grandchildren:  Jessica Hulett, Beth Ballew, Ryan Bennett, Cody Dent, Courtney Murrell, Kylie Dent, Jessica Wilson, Joseph Stafford, and Andrew Turner; and five great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 17th at New Salem Funeral Home, Independence.  Graveside services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 18th in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Jonesboro, AR.  In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to be made to Sycamore Hills Baptist Church or Eastside Baptist Church, both of Independence, MO.
