Vernon was born November 14, 1930 in Washington, Missouri, the son of Chester and Minnie (Pointer) Jett. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1950 and proudly served our country for 4 years, 8 months, and 29 days during the Korean War. Airman First Class Jett, driven to duty, continued his career as a civil servant, working and retiring from the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers in Kansas City, MO.

Vernon married Leah Trammel-Provin on February 22, 1969, and both blended their blessings of two children, Douglas Grant Jett Sr. and Vanessa Rea Provin into this new family. It was the beginning of a lifetime partnership that involved a love of pets, many adopted, rescued and greatly loved into the Jett household, along with a commitment to their community, family and friends.
Vernon enjoyed his time as a Charter Member of the Oak Leaves – a talented musical group of men who brought joy and entertainment to so many, even cutting an album of music that is beloved today. With a song in his heart, Vernon also sang in his church choir and found pleasure in gardening, growing his specialty tomatoes, along with a host of other vegetables and roses – which he gladly shared with friends and family. His fragrant heirloom roses had many followers and he loved picking and presenting bouquets for his bride, Leah. A man of great character and kindness, Vernon valued his friendships and enjoyed various outings, including golf, where he and his best buddies perfected their fame, but also stood by each other through thick and thin.
Vernon is survived by his wife, Leah, of the home; son, Douglas Grant Jett Sr. (Sheila) of Williamsburg, VA; grandson, Douglas Grant Jett Jr. of Murells Inlet, SC; sister, Ruby Acord of Dixon, MO; and many other family members, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Clifford Jett, Bernard Jett, Gilbert Jett, and Orville Jett; sisters: Elsie Laval, Delores Balduaf, and Cora; and daughter, Vanessa Rea Provin.
