David J. Maschger


David J. Maschger, 75, died peacefully at home on December 24, 2015. He was born April 1, 1940 to Howard E. and Jane C. (Adams) Maschger at St. Margaret’s Hospital in Hammond, IN. David loved God completely, his family fiercely, and his dog Lucy unconditionally. He was honorable, ethical and above all, loyal.

David had many interesting careers including paperboy, Fuller Brush salesman, and assembly line worker for Ford before advancing into management. He transferred to Lee’s Summit in 1979 and served as CEO of Lee’s Summit Hospital for 11 years. In 1990, he retired after 30 years in healthcare. He and his wife, Anne, moved to Aliquippa, PA to work with the Community of Celebration, a religious order in the Episcopal Church. Upon returning to the area, he and Anne purchased Minsky’s Pizza in Lee’s Summit, which they owned for 10 years. He served as Executive Director of The Light House, a pregnancy ministry, for 5 years.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Anne; 6 children, John, Dan (Gretchen); Mark (Leslie); Anne DeMay (Matt); Amy Robertson (Alan); Bill Avise (Julie); 16 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; and his brother Allan (Linda) Maschger.

A mass to celebrate David’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 16, 2015 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 416 SE Grand Ave., Lee’s Summit, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Kansas City Hospice, 1500 Meadow Lake Parkway, Suite 200, Kansas City, MO 64114 or the Humane Society of Greater Kansas City, 5445 Parallel Parkway, Kansas City, KS 66104.
