Leo Deward McCarty, age 88, of Independence, Missouri, passed away Thursday, November 10, 2016. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 3rd at the Buckner Restoration Branch Church on Twyman Road in Independence.
Leo was born December 27, 1927, in Battle Creek, Michigan, the son of Deward and Viola (Gross) McCarty. Leo served in the Navy during WWII and after the war, married his wife, Betty, in 1946. They were married for 53 years and had one son, Doug. They enjoyed raising their son, and helping others who were in need. Leo was an Elder in the RLDS church and loved doing the Lord’s Work. He was a barber for many years and enjoyed telling stories and sharing testimonies whenever he could.
Leo could often be seen visiting nursing homes and hospitals almost daily. He touched so many hearts and so many lives. We are thankful to have had the opportunity to be a friend and a relative. Leo was looking forward to that glorious reunion and I’m sure he has heard those words we all wish to hear when we meet the Lord, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant”.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty, in 1999; and his son, Doug, in 2016.
