Barbara J. Scott


Barbara Jo’an Scott, 74, of Independence, Missouri, passed away at her home Sunday, May 28, 2017 after a long battle with cancer.  A Celebration of Life will be held from 12:00 – 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 4th at 2103 NE 3rd St., Blue Springs, MO 64014.

Barbara was born August 8, 1942 in Eureka, Kansas, the daughter of Edwin “Buck” Thornton and Bernadine (Lozier) Deeds.  She worked for over 40 years for the IRS, extracting and sorting tax returns. She was married to Melvin Scott the Love of her life for 39 years.

Barbara was a born again Christian and loved the Lord.  She lived life on her own terms and was a collector of numerous items. She enjoyed woodworking, and tinkering around the house and garden.

Barbara is survived by four sons: Floyd Kunkelman, Keith Kunkelman (Jeanne), Kevin Kunkelman (Deborah), and Ray Scott (Patti); two daughters: Diana “Lynn” Elsloo (Randy), and Sharon Crews; two brothers: Richard Deeds (Diana), and Larry Thornton (Dean); thirteen grandchildren; and twenty-two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brother Harold Deeds; two daughters, Beverly Jean Kunkelman and Linda Erecius; two grandsons, Joshua and Little Ricky; and great-grandson, Joshua.
