Bernard Ivan Smith, 93, of Blue Springs, Missouri, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2017 at St. Mary’s Medical Center. A gathering for family and friends will be held from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 28th at Royer-Hays Funeral Home, Blue Springs.
Bernard was born March 31, 1923, in Emmetsburg, Iowa, the son of Charles and Reta (Coffin) Smith. He married Shirley I. Racobs on June 30, 1943. He was a hard worker, enjoyed wood-working, and loved to travel and go fishing. He stayed very informed about world events & enjoyed being with family.
Bernard was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 67 years; infant son, Bruce Allen; four sisters; and three brothers.
His survivors include three children: Bernie Smith (Wyona) of Blue Springs, Linda Gilmore (Ed) of Overland Park, KS, and Barry Smith (Cindy) of Omaha, NE; six grandchildren: Betty Jo Smith-Douglas, Jody Smith, Michael Smith (Connie), all of Blue Springs, Mark Smith of Anderson, IN, Jennifer Letts (Brent) of Olathe, KS, and Sara Shaughnessy (Dan) of Topeka, KS; and nine great-grandchildren.
