Iris Lou Underwood, 79, of Oak Grove, Missouri, passed away Monday, January 6, 2020 at Oak Grove Nursing & Rehab. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 13th at New Liberty Baptist Church, 32310 E. Colbern Rd., Oak Grove, MO; burial in Perdee Cemetery, Grain Valley, MO. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church.
Iris was born April 20, 1940, in Lowry, MO, the daughter of Chester Lewis and Daisy Ferle (Veach) Daughtery. She married Elmer Underwood on September 4, 1965. Iris formerly fostered over 50 children, assisted countless others, and was the “mother” of all the kids in their Tarsney Lakes neighborhood. She was very sociable and enjoyed her Bible studies, playing games, and visiting with family and friends. She was a longtime member of New Liberty Baptist Church.
Iris was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer in 2011. Her survivors include two sons, Richard Underwood and James Underwood; sister, Sarah Elaine Stark; five grandchildren: Joshua Ash, Joseph Ash, Dakota Underwood, Summer Rose Underwood, and Amee Wiggins; and numerous nieces and nephews.
