Makayla D. Pool


Makayla Dawn Pool, 14, of Buckner, Missouri passed away on Thursday, March 25, 2021. A visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, April 2nd at Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley, MO.

Makayla was born July 15, 2006 in Blue Springs, Missouri, the daughter of James Pool and Jennifer Burec. She loved to skateboard and work on trucks with her dad. Makayla also enjoyed drawing and doodling and listening to music. Makayla loved to hang out with her brothers and sisters.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents: Jeff Pool and Carol Short; and her uncle Jeffrey Short.

Makayla is survived by her father James Pool and step-mother Laura Moore of Buckner, MO; mother Jennifer Burec and step-father Derrek Hurshman of Blue Springs, MO; siblings: Kayla Cutshall, Dylan Cutshall, Dana Presley, Sydney Reid, Evan Williams, Christian Hurshman, Dylan Adey, Jayden Moore, Tristyn Hurshman, Hailey Pool, Whitney Gunder, Lexi Gunder, Kai Hurshman, Alexis Moore and Nathan Hurshman; grandparents: Michael and Jill Dykstra, Mike and Brenda Hurshman; and many extended family and friends.

  1. Lord, I don’t know why this happened to this family. Please fill their empty heart with your love and peace. Help them to rise again and soar like eagles. Ease their pain and give them strength. Give them strength and strengthen their relationship with you during this trying time. Quench their heart with your love and let your grace sustain them during this mourning period. Thank you for the time that you gave this family with this child, her memories will be surely blessed. May you secure those memories in their hearts and mind till we all meet with you again.   3. Some things in life we never understand and this is one of them for me. I am so lucky that Kayla was in my ELA I class. She was truly beautiful on the inside and out. Rest easy, my dear.
