Leonard G. Adkins, 81, succumbed to cancer early Saturday morning, May 2, 2015 at Research Medical Center.  Leonard and Mary Beth, wife and mother of four sons, lived in the Independence area for 54 years.  Leonard carried on after the death of Betsy in 2000.

Leonard was a veteran of the United States Army.  He was a past owner and partner of many local businesses, as well as a member of many national business associations.

Leonard is survived by his four sons; George of indep, Mo; Jeff and wife Cindy of Blue Springs, Mo; Steve and wife Denise of Shreveport, La; and Ted and wife Kim of Parkville, Mo.  He also leaves behind many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to Vitas Hospice.

A Memorial Service will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 7, 2015 at New Salem Funeral Home.
