William L. Carter


William L. “Bill” Carter, 84, of Grain Valley, Missouri, passed away Thursday, August 2, 2012 at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Blue Springs, MO.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 8th at Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley; burial in Bates City Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 7th at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the family.

Bill was born April 14, 1928, in Yarrow, Missouri, the son of William H. and Mabel D. (Wood) Carter.  He graduated from Kirksville High School in 1946.  Bill farmed in Lone Jack and Bates City.  He worked for General Motors for 30 years.  He was an avid Chiefs fan and was a season ticket holder since 1968.

Bill was preceded in death by son, Robert Carter in 1967; his 1st wife, Pauline Carter in 1985; granddaughter, Amanda Brown in 1996; son, William “Sonny” Carter in 1997; four sisters: Marie Vaul, Lola Hayden, Wanda Garrett, & Myrtle Carter; three brothers: Hamilton Carter, Leon Carter, & Gale Carter.

His survivors include his wife, Alice Carter of the home; daughter Darlene Merritt of Bates City, MO; daughter Nancy Adams of Harrisonville, MO; son Terry Carter & wife Lisa of Lewisburg, TN; daughter Deborah Payne & husband, Ken of Port Richey, FL; daughter Paula Andrews & husband Gregory of Peculiar, MO; stepson Ronald Affolter & wife Janice of Columbia, MO; stepdaughter Brenda Coolidge & husband Richard of Owasso, OK; 14 grandchildren & 25 great-grandchildren; sister Helen Lueck of Oak Grove, MO; and a host of nieces & nephews.
