Bernice Freeman, 80, of Independence, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at Monterey Park Nursing & Rehab, Independence. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Friday, March 18th at Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley, MO. Burial at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Grain Valley, will follow. Bernice was born March 20, 1930, in Newton County, Arkansas, the daughter of Marvin & Edna (Adams) Hampton. She married Leonard W. Freeman on October 19, 1947, and he preceded her in death in 1997. Bernice was a member of Blue Springs Assembly of God church. She was an avid quilter, and a wonderful cook & gardener.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and four brothers: Herbert Hampton, Hubert Hampton, Homer Hampton, & Hariol Hampton.
Her survivors include two sons: Darrell & Mary Freeman of Eagle Rock, MO, Randy & Rebecca Freeman of Overland Park, KS; two daughters: Carol & John McCrory of Grain Valley, Anita & Randy Howe of Napolean, MO; seven grandchildren: Michael McCrory, Brian McCrory, Danielle Parker, Clayton Freeman, Patrick Howe, Rachel Howe, & Eliott Freeman; one great-grandson: Joseph McCrory; three sisters: Inez & Archie Villines, Vivian & Wilbern Reddell, and Johnetta Pogue.
