Barbara Jean George, 75 of Independence, MO, passed away, Wednesday, May 10, 2017. A celebration of life visitation will be held Friday, May 19, 2017 from 4 to 7pm at the Lake Tapawingo Country Club, 244 Dockside Drive.

Barbara was born March 4, 1942 in Kansas City, MO to the late Claude and Rosa Mae (Pike) Shaon. She was united in marriage to Anthony “Tony” George on February 14, 1999 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. He preceded her in death on January 31, 2013. Barbara retired from Missouri Department of Corrections where she had worked as a receptionist and switchboard operator.

Survivors include brother, Gerry Shaon, two sons, Rick Kirksey and Kevin Kirksey and his wife Tracy; four grandchildren, Jason Kirksey, Jessica Kirksey, Kyla Kirksey and Lindsey Harlan. She is also survived by stepchildren Bob George, Doug George and Lisa Benke and 10 step-grandchildren.

In addition to her spouse, she is preceded in death by her brother Ron Shaon, sister Carolyn Weaver, daughter Janet Kirksey, and two grandchildren Lindsay and Lauren Kirksey.
