Gary Lee Tonahill, 77, of Grain Valley, MO, formerly of Independence, MO, died Friday July 16, 2021, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Blue Springs, MO. Per Garyโs final request, there will be no funeral, but a Celebration of Life is pending.
Gary was born in Independence, MO, to Glen and Francis Tonahill. He took an early retirement from Armco Steel and started his business “Talents Unlimited.โ As a sideline, Gary owned “The Trolley Inn” on Truman Road in Independence for a short time. He started his own mobile BBQ bus and appeared at many festivals in K.C. and surrounding areas. Later he became the owner of four Taverns “Tonahills Sugar Inn” in Sugar Creek, MO, “Tonahills Three of a Kind” in Independence, MO, “Tonahills South” in Independence, MO, and “Tonahills Last Chance” in Buckner, MO. Gary was a sportsman and he and his wife, Frances, were avid trap shooters every weekend.
Gary survived by his wife, Frances Tonahill of Grain Valley, MO; his sister, Diana Hamilton of Independence, MO; one son, Jason Tonahill of Buckner, MO; one stepdaughter, Nekole Yeager of Grain Valley, MO; five grandchildren: Kory Yeager, Chase Yeager, and Kaylee Yeager of Grain Valley, Jeffrey Scott Tonahill II of Independence, MO, and Adin Tonahill of Buckner, MO; and one great-grandson, Zane McClung of Grain Valley.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first-born child, Jeffrey Scott Tonahill who died at the age of 33.
