Valeria N “Garber”, “LaMere”, Howard, 90, of Independence, Missouri, passed away Monday, October 17, 2016, at the St. Luke’s East Hospital in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.
Valeria was born in Waynesboro Virginia, on February 8, 1926, to Charles P. and Ethel Orvetta “Hollar” Garber. Val taught Sign Language classes and was an Interpreter for the RLDS World Church Conferences. She worked from 1977-1982 as Bess Truman’s Personal Companion. She loved to read mysteries, crochet afghans, play cards and square dance. Val never met a stranger and enjoyed socializing. She was known for her wit and humor, always joking and smiling. She loved to share experiences with those she met.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, Charles and Orvetta Garber; two husbands; Frank LaMere and Darrel Howard, her best friend Fred Lycan, her son, Wayne and daughter Charlotte LaMere. Her two sisters; Charlotte Golladay and Jacqueline Almarode, and her brother, Charles Garber, Jr.
Her survivors include; three nieces, Ann Hughes, Vivian Jones, and Betty Tremain. Three nephews; Jeff, Danny and Chip Almarode. Two stepsons; Michael and David Howard, and two granddaughters; Paula and Janet LaMere. May she always be remembered as; “The First Lady’s Lady”.
