Dottie was born September 5, 1943 in Lebanon, Missouri, to Francis and Mabel (Busby) Shumate.  She was married to Bill on February 9, 1963 and spent nearly 56 years with the love of her life.  Dottie leaves an amazing legacy of love for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She was a woman of faith and was known for having just the right blend of compassion, sassiness, grace, and strength. She was an incredible cook, and everyone loved her homemade cinnamon rolls, fried chicken, and amazing sandwiches.

Dottie’s life was the epitome of the Proverbs 31 woman and she was dedicated in her service to the Lord, her family, and her friends.  She held a special place in her heart for children, and she and Bill spent thirteen years as foster parents to more than fifty children.  Dottie also directly impacted a countless number of children in her time as a director at the Gillis Center, as a kindergarten teacher, as a childcare manager and as a church nursery director.

Dottie is survived by husband Bill; son, Noel Ison and wife Trish; daughter, Teresa Allen and husband Duane; five granddaughters: Brittany Gitthens and husband Tyler, Tabitha Allen, Laken Green and husband Robbie, Libby Allen, and Isabel Ison; one grandson, Thaddaeus Allen; two great-granddaughters, Hayden and Emilia; sister, Betty Andrews; brother, Dennis Shumate; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
