
James (Jay) Mitchell Reistad, age 50, of Independence, Missouri, passed away Friday, August 20, 2021, in Independence. Memorial services will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 26th at Wood Chapel United Methodist Church, 4725 NE Lakewood Way, Lee’s Summit, MO 64064. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until service time at the church. Jay was born November 13, 1970, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the son of James M. II and Clarinda Jo Whittle Reistad. He was a member of the Woods Chapel United Methodist Church in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.
Jay, one of three boys, grew up in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. He was a talented artist and athlete as a teenager. Jay was a sharp mechanic, especially when it came to any Chevrolet. He was a true outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting arrowheads, mushrooms, deer, and fishing. He loved traveling to mine for gold and fish. On February 17, 1996, he was blessed with a daughter, Emily Jo, whom was his pride and joy.
He is survived by his daughter, Emily Jo Reistad of Kingsville, Missouri; his mother, Clarinda Jo Reistad of Sedalia, Missouri; his brother, Kelly Reistad of Belton, Missouri; his sister, Anna (John) Kissel of Milwaukee, Minnesota; nieces Haylie Reistad and Mariella Reistad; nephews Alan Reistad and Kaydin Reistad; two aunts, Patti (Chris) Stretz of Sedalia, Missouri and Paulette (Ralph) Strader of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; four cousins, Tara Smithson, Erin Griffith, Jenny Strader, and Maggie Hartman; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, James M. Reistad II; brother, Matthew Reistad; grandparents, Vernon L. Whittle, Ruth Talbott Whittle, James Reistad I, and Janann Reistad.
