Gary A. Linn, 67, of Grain Valley, Missouri, passed away Sunday, April 13, 2014 at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Blue Springs. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, April 19th at Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Veterans Administration.
Gary was born March 1, 1947, in Estherville, Iowa, the son of Goodwin & Anne (Howard) Linn. He graduated from Estherville High School. Gary married Shirley Sargent on May 9, 1969 in Monroe, Louisiana. He was a Sergeant in the Air Force, serving from 1966 – 1970, stationed for one year in Bangkok, Thailand. He continued serving in the Reserves until 1972. Gary graduated from North East Louisiana College in 1977. He was an IT Specialist and web developer for the USDA, recently retiring after 38 years. Gary loved traveling, camping, motorcycling, & photography. He enjoyed cooking in his smoker, and was famous for his smoked turkey & ham at Thanksgiving. He also enjoyed the company of his beloved pets.
Gary was preceded in death by his mother, Annie Linn, and his sister, Gloria Helmich.
His survivors include his wife of 44 years, Shirley Linn, of the home; son, Jeff & Jay Linn of Cook, MN; daughter, Christi & Sean Corbett of Glen Allen, VA; son, Scott Linn of Grain Valley, MO; son, Glen & Holly Linn of Branson, MO; six grandchildren: Zach, Bryan, Justin, Alexis, Lucas & Katie; great-granddaughter, Aubrey; his father, Goodwin Linn of Estherville, IA; five brothers: Tom & Irena Linn of Houston, TX, Kenneth & Lynda Linn of Monroe, LA, Duane Linn of Estherville, Randy & Connie Linn of Armstrong, IA, Steven & Alta Linn of Superior, IA; and sister, Kaylene Linn of Estherville.
