Barbara R. Marquart


Barbara Ruth House Marquart, 82, Blue Springs, Mo, died at Villages of Jackson Creek Memory Care Unit September 10, 2010. A graveside memorial service will be held at Union Grove Cemetery north of Westboro, Mo, her home for over 50 years.

Barbara was born May 20, 1928, in Sweet Springs, Mo, to Harvey Alvin House and Ruth Nichols Wylie House. She was graduated from Central College (Central Methodist University), Fayette, Mo, in 1950, and married Gerald Marquart, of Westboro, Dec. 26, 1951.

Barbara taught English, speech, and drama for 30 years in the Westboro, Tarkio, and Rockport schools. She worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Westboro following her retirement from teaching.

Barbara loved to perform and sing, and she was involved in the Mule Barn Theatre at Tarkio College for several years. She and Gerald sang at the United Methodist churches in Westboro and Tarkio, area nursing homes, and civic groups.

Barbara was a member of St. Peter United Methodist Church in Blue Springs, and was affectionately known as “Aunt Barb” by friends and family.

Survivors include her cousin, Edna Rhe Nelson, Sweet Springs, Mo; sisters-in-law Ilene House, Lee’s Summit, Mo, and Doris Marquart Pirret, Sun City West, Az; nieces Ellen House Gearon, Cindy Marquart Deveaux, Patty Marquart Ikenberry, Paula Marquart Sorg, and Judy Pirret Bradfield; and nephews Steve House, Harvey House, Ted House, Rick Marquart, and Scott Marquart.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gerald in 2002 and her brother Keith E. House in 2005.
