Mary “Joann” Lewis


Mary “Joann” Lewis, 80, of Oak Grove, Missouri, passed away on Friday, August 27, 2021.  Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 7th at First Baptist Church of Oak Grove.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the church.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Oak Grove.

Joann was born on July 15, 1941, in Independence, MO.  She had worked at Commercial Bank of Oak Grove for approximately 40 years as a receptionist, secretary, and loan officer for the bank prior to retiring.  Joann was an excellent cook, who loved nothing more than to entertain family and friends and to cook for and serve them.  She was also an exceptional seamstress, having created several wedding dresses for friends and family, as well as, creating clothes for herself and relatives over the years.  Joann was an avid crocheter and World of Warcraft player.  She collected elephant figurines and decorations, Snow Baby figurines, bird houses, and Barbie dolls.  Joann was also a member of the Oak Grove Historical Society and a dedicated participant in the First Baptist Church Bible Study group.

Joann was preceded in death by her father, Charles C. Costin, and mother, Mary L. Costin, as well as, a brother, Gary C. Costin.

Joann is survived by 2 sons, Chris Lewis of Sharpsburg, GA and Craig Lewis of Odessa, MO; a daughter, Amy Lewis of Oak Grove, MO; a sister, Joyce Smith (Allen) of Blue Springs, MO; 6 grandchildren, Jessica Bolin (Cory), Justin Keeran, Chance Lewis, Cole Lewis, Madalyne Lewis, and Mahalia Lewis; 1 great grandson, Jace Lewis; 5 other in-laws, Pat Lewis, Jerry and Kathy Lewis, John Etchison, and Nance Bybee; along with 12 nieces and nephews.
