Michael Lee McCaughey, 42, Independence, MO, died unexpectedly, Saturday May 31, 2014 at his home. Michael was born in Independence, Missouri on September 6, 1971. On September 27, 2008 in Oak Grove at the home of his parents, Michael married Melony Lee and also became a step father to her four children. He is survived by his wife Melony, four children Tommy (Amy Cooper) Belcher, Samantha Belcher, Sydney Belcher, and Barry Wayne Hancock II. Michael is also survived by his parents, Thomas and Susie McCaughey of Oak Grove, Missouri, his older brother Brian (Stacey) McCaughey of Leavenworth, KS, his sister Mindy (Randy) Pollock of Oak Grove, MO, and younger brother Tim (Mike) McCaughey of Garland, TX; his nieces Ashley and Sarah McCaughey and Raven Pollock, his nephews Colton and Kyler Pollock, and Ryan Bohannon and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Michael attended Oak Grove, MO schools all of his life and graduated in 1989 as a proud Panther. He was a wonderful loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend. Michael worked at Hallmark Cards in Liberty, MO and would have celebrated his 25th anniversary on June 21, 2014. Michael was an avid hunter and camper and enjoyed the outdoors. Michael loved being a father and uncle and spent his free time teaching them his hunting and fishing skills. Michael believed in Jesus, Michael loved God and Michael will have eternal life. Services will be held Saturday, June 7, 2014, at Royer Funeral Home at 100 Royer Ln, Grain Valley, MO 64029 phone: (816) 847-4441. Visitation will be held from 1p -3p with the funeral following directly at 3p, officiated by the Reverend Keith Payne. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations in honor of Michael to the Frontier Justice Fund mailed to the National Christian Foundation, 706 N. Lindenwood Drive, Olathe, KS 66062.
