LeRoy “Mac” McLaughlin, 82, of Bates City, Missouri passed away Thursday, June 19, 2014. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 22nd at Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley, MO. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 23rd at First Baptist Church of Oak Grove, Oak Grove, MO; burial in Iconium Cemetery, Osceola, MO. Contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Mission Fund or to the UCM McLaughlin Scholarship Fund.
Mac was born on October 20, 1931, in Osceola, Missouri to the late Ivy and Georgia McLaughlin. Mac graduated from Osceola High in 1948. He obtained his Education Specialist degree at University of Central Missouri. He was drafted into the army in 1952 and served in Korea. Mac was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1960. He was married to Doris Feaster for 48 years. She preceded him in death. They taught together in the Raytown Public School System for 33 years. After their retirement, they began teaching at St. Paul’s Episcopal Day School in Kansas City, Missouri. They retired a second time after 16 years. During Mac’s teaching career he primarily taught math and enjoyed sponsoring the math club. While Mac and Doris did not have any biological children, they considered their students their children. In his spare time, Mac enjoyed woodworking and listening to county gospel music.
Mac married his high school sweetheart, Jane Arnett, in 2007 and “adopted” a new family. In this later years Mac enjoyed traveling with the Elder Berries and attending his Bible Study class. He particularly enjoyed spending time with the true love of his life, his great granddaughter, Lydia.
Also preceding him in death are a brother, William McLaughlin; a sister, Mabel Evans; and a niece, Kathy Yearta.
He is survived by Jane Arnett McLaughlin, of the home; niece and nephews, Vicky Flynn, Ronnie Evans, Michael Evans, Bill McLaughlin, and Barry McLaughlin, and several great nieces and nephews; from his “adopted” family, Randy and Kathy Arnett, Dale and Linda Arnett, and Janna and Mike Watson, 7 grandchildren: Bevin, Jillian, Jonathon, Danae, Lindy, Matthew, and Gregory; and 2 great grandchildren: Lydia and Aiden.
