Betty Jean (Midkiff) Newberry, 91, of Odessa, Missouri, passed away Saturday, September 15, 2018. The family will gather this weekend to share stories and a meal in her honor. They will gather again to bury her ashes in Moody, MO, at a later date.
Betty was born September 2, 1927, in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Reuben E. and Juanita (Camden) Midkiff. She attended school in Brownington and William Chrisman High School in Independence and was a member of the Oglala Lakota Tribe. Betty married Thomas E. Newberry of Moody, MO on December 10, 1948 in Clinton, MO.
Her survivors include two daughters: Leny Elliot (David) of Searcy, AR, and Shirley Newberry of Odessa; daughter-in-law, Liz Newberry of Pleasant Hill, MO; five grandchildren: Rebecca Gowen of Benton, AR, Tish Pace (Col. Ryan) of Judsonia, AR, Amy Elliott of Searcy, AR, Paul Newberry (Melinda) of Independence, MO, and Carley Newberry Esq. of Kansas City, MO; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and four sisters-in-law: Wilma Wolverton (Joe) of Grain Valley, MO, Lillian Newberry of Moody, MO, Alta Newberry of Overland Park, KS, and Velva Newberry of Cabool, MO.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 68 years, Thomas Newberry; her son, Paul “Ed” Newberry; and a brother, Wallace C. Midkiff.
