Edith L. Lakin


Edith “Edie” L. Lakin, 70, of Topeka, KS, went home to our Lord Jesus Christ on October 6, 2021, surrounded by her children.

Edith was born July 14, 1951, in Independence, Missouri to Oscar and Doris Wittig. She graduated from Oak Grove High School in 1969 and attended Central Missouri State University from 1969-1971. In 2014, she earned her CNA and CMA certifications from Washburn Technical School in Topeka.  She retired from Josten’s Publishing after 35 years.

Edie is survived by her daughter, Lena (Jeff) Runnebaum, and her son, Bryant Lakin, both of Topeka; 2 grandchildren, Skylar Runnebaum and Alexander Runnebaum of Topeka; her mother, Doris Wittig of Oak Grove; a sister, Susan (Anthony) Mordente of Bel Air, Maryland; and two brothers, Charles (Sandra) Wittig, and Russell Wittig, both of Oak Grove.  She was preceded in death by her father Oscar Wittig, and her sister, Melanie Nussbaum. 

Graveside services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on October 12th in Blue Springs Cemetery, Blue Springs, MO.  The family requests donations to the Humane Society in lieu of flowers.
