Walter L. Sanders


Walter Lewis Sanders, 74, of Oak Grove, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, August 3, 2006 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday August 7th at Grain Valley Christian Church, with a a graveside service at 3:00 p.m. in Green Grove Cemetery, Latham, MO. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Sunday, August 6th at Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Grain Valley Christian Church, P.O. Box 325, Grain Valley, MO 64029, or Green Grove Cemetery Association, 68004 Moser Road, Latham, MO 65050.

Walter was born on May 16, 1932, in Mountain Grove, Missouri, the son of Lou and Rebecca (Davis) Sanders. He married Sylvia M. Coffelt on January 1, 1954. Walter was a machinist at Columbian Steel Tank Co. for 43 years and a member of Grain Valley Christian Church. He also coached baseball in SSJBA for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Darrell Sanders Sr., a sister, Betty Richert, and a nephew, Darrell Sanders Jr.

His survivors include his wife of 52 years: Sylvia Sanders of the home; two sons: Paul W. Sanders & wife, Jamie of Blue Springs, MO, and Dean L. Sanders of Oak Grove, MO; three brothers: Richard D. Sanders & wife, Rebecca of Springfield, MO, Lars D. Sanders & wife, Susan of Willard, MO, and Jack L. Sanders of Kansas City, KS; six sisters-in-law: Venita Sanders of Leavenworth, KS, Bonnie Sanders of Florida, Mary Bersano & husband, Dale of Sedalia, MO, Terry Brown & husband, Don of California, MO, Sherry Coffelt of Hallsville, MO, and Betty Coffelt of Overland Park, KS; eight grandchildren: Brian, Heather, Dustin, Derick, Lindsey, Kurtis, Jared, & Sarah; one great-granddaughter: Caroline; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends.
