
Paul Gilbert Clum, 93, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, October 23, 2021. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 29th at Community of Christ Church in Oak Grove, MO; burial in Lone Jack Cemetery, Lone Jack, MO. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church.
Paul was born in Independence, Missouri, on April 4, 1928, to Mendall Keene and Lucinda Grace (Dowker) Clum. He attended Independence schools and graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1946. He became an Eagle Scout in Troop 223 in 1943 and was a member of the Mic-O-Say tribe. After attending the University of Missouri for one year, he entered the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1950 and served for two years at the rank of corporal.
He was married to Ruthelma Granberry in 1952 and they were the parents of four daughters and one son. Paul was a lifelong member of the RLDS (now Community of Christ) Church and served as pastor in the Holden, Missouri, and Franklin, North Carolina, congregations for a total of seven years.
He was active in volunteering in his community. He was a Boy Scoutmaster in Kingsville, Missouri, (5 years); Central Missouri Stake High Council (3 years); Manatee County Florida Board of Realtors Board of Directors and President of MLS; Braden River Fire District organizer and first chairman of fire commissioners appointed by the governor of Florida; Board of Directors of Otto, NC, Community Development Association (Man of the Year Award 2004); Volunteer and on the Board of Directors of the Lone Jack Historical Society (12 years).
Paul is survived by his daughters Diane (Rick) Maupin of Lee’s Summit, MO; Cindy (Steve) Thomas of Independence, MO; Paula (Gary) Rummel of Cameron MO; and Linda (Don) Gerteisen of St. Augustine, FL; and son James (Michelle) Clum of Steubenville, OH; 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, sister Nadine, grandchildren Liana Thomas and Tobias Clum.
His belief was “When you are in the service of your fellow beings you are only in the service of your God” (Mosiah 1:49). He wanted his life to make a difference in the world.

27 Oct 2021My deepest sympathies to the family. Paul was a unique and interesting gentleman. As a fellow volunteer of the Lone Jack Historical Society, I often listened to his stories for hours. I will miss him.
