Phyllis J. Sidebottom


Phyllis Jean Sidebottom, 79, of Grain Valley, Missouri, passed away Saturday, November 15, 2014 at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Blue Springs, MO.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 20th at First Bible Baptist Church, 1441 SE Adams Dairy Parkway, Blue Springs, MO.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 19th at the church.  Contributions may be made to the Baptist Bible Fellowship International, Springfield, MO.

Phyllis was born August 23, 1935, in Higginsville, Missouri, the daughter of Milford and Anna Louise (Fetter) Stoll.  She married Donald Sidebottom in August 1953.  Phyllis graduated from Baptist Bible College, Springfield, in 1961.  Preparation continued for mission service until 1963, and Phyllis left for Ethiopia, Africa in March, along with her husband and three young children.  She served in Africa for over 40 years.  Phyllis & Donald founded Baptist Bible College in Ethiopia and also in the Virgin Islands.  She taught in the college in Africa, alongside her husband, in children’s and women’s ministry.  After returning stateside, she and Donald continued Biblical translations and correspondence to the pastors in Ethiopia.  Both Phyllis and Donald have been faithful members of First Bible Baptist Church in Blue Springs for several years.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, and one grandchild.

Her survivors include her husband of 61 years, Donald Sidebottom of the home; son, Dennis & Karen Sidebottom, Kingsville, MO; son, Michael & Jeanie Sidebottom of Blue Springs, MO; daughter, Rhonda Littrell of Grain Valley, MO; brother, Ed Stoll of Warsaw, MO; 11 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.
