Richard Edward Snyder, 73, of Grain Valley, MO, passed away Saturday, June 18, 2011 at the VA Medical Center in Kansas City. A Memorial Service will be held at 7 am Wednesday, June 22nd at Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley. The family will receive friends at Royer’s from 6 pm until service time. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society or P.A.W.S.
Richard was born on May 2, 1938 in Roanoke, VA, the son of Jesse & Hazel (Wood) Snyder. He married Doris Jean Spruill on May 2, 1961. He was an Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. Richard had been a furniture salesman at Sears for 38 years before retiring in 1998. During his retirement, he worked for the Grain Valley School District as a mail carrier. Richard was a member of Blue Springs American Legion Post #499 and he attended the Faith United Methodist Church in Grain Valley. He was an avid hunter & fisherman, and he loved watching his grandchildren play in sporting events. He adored his beloved cat, Toby.
His survivors include his wife of 50 years: Doris J. Snyder of the home; a son: David Snyder & wife Kitty of Grain Valley, MO; a brother: Donald Snyder of Troutville, VA; and three grandchildren: Jesse, Jordan, & McKenzie Snyder.
