America lost another of its greatest generation on January 4, 2015, when James Sopher passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 9th at Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley, MO; burial in Blue Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 8th at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the National WWI Museum, 100 W. 26th Street, Kansas City, MO 64108.
James was born in 1922 to Ernest & Emma Sopher. He worked nearly 3 decades at what was then the largest retailer in the USA as a Service Technician. James served during WW2 in the US Navy.
James was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Betty; and 3 children.
He leaves behind Cheryl Orlando, Terry Sopher (Gail), Paulette Stewart, Kathleen Coombs, Vicki Krueger (Warren), James Sopher Jr. (Jeannie), Patricia Borberg (Allen), John Sopher (Karen), Carla Longhofer (Mike), Marla Rathke, and Kim McFatrich; 35 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 1 great great-grandchild.
