Orville “Joe” Stubbs, Grain Valley, MO, passed away Friday, March 10, 2006. He was born July 24, 1924 in West Union, WV to Effie and Ray Stubbs. Orville retired from the Ohio Edison Power Co. after 42 years of service as a Forestry Supervisor. He was a decorated veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army 517th parachute “Screaming Eagle” Division and a Pathfinder in the First Airborne Tak Force. He received two Purple Hearst, three Bronze Stars, Silver Star and numerous other citations.
Orville was a Master Mason of the Friendship Lodge #56 in West union and a member of the Easter Star #56, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3408, and the American Legion Post 0290 in Columbiana, OH. He was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church of Grain Valley, MO. He is survived by his wife Patricia (Gwinn) Stubbs, three daughters, Lori and spouse Dr. William Richter Jr., Patricia and spouse Harry Owen, Susan Toder and spouse; one son, Daniel Stubbs and wife Beth; one stepdaughter, Marti and spouse Joe Harlow; two stepsons, Ancil Tucker and Paul Johnston; fourteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Hazel Vanscoy and Lilliam Hathcoat. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Mildred Hickman and Chloe Stubbs, and brother Frank Stubbs.
A Memorial Service, celebrating his life, will be held Saturday, March 18, at 11:00 a.m. at the Faith United Methodist Church in Grain Valley. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Faith United Methodist Church Building Fund.
