David W. Terryberry


David Wayne Terryberry, 78, of Independence Missouri, passed away June 28th, 2015 at Centerpoint Hospital.  Visitation will be at New Salem Funeral Home in Independence, Thursday July 2nd from 6:00 to 7:30p.m.

After graduating in 1954 from William Chrisman, David’s personality of never meeting a stranger and love for trying new things, put him on a career journey that was vast, varied and fulfilling.  He worked on the “Hill” at Gleaner Combine. Walked a foot route as a mailman. Protected and served the
people of Independence as patrolman and later Detective.  Obtaining a B.S. in Law Enforcement and M.S. in Criminal Justice David went on to instruct Criminal Justice at Maple Woods, Johnson County and Park Colleges.  As his own boss, David moved and wrecked homes and acquired rental property.  He loved animals having several bulldogs and Saddlebreds.  Owning property in Montana and Arizona was a lifelong dream fulfilled. Trusting Christ as his Savior, David read the bible for hours in the evening while listening to his
numerous gospel collections.  He enjoyed people, regaling them with stories laden with humor.  He was a man with a big heart for God, family, friends, and life.

Preceded in death by parents Albert and Emma Terryberry, David is survived by wife, Mary M. Terryberry of Independence, MO; Daughter, Belinda Ashlock, husband David, grandson Josiah of Camden, MO; Daughter, Karen Sue Edwards, husband Robert, of Richmond, MO; Brother, John A Terryberry, wife Princess, of Independence, MO; Brother-n-law, Thomas Strickland, wife Lanika of Independence, MO; Sister-n-law Jean Lowery, husband Donald of Independence,
MO; and numerous nieces and nephews.
