Dennis W. Stephens


Dennis Whetstone Stephens, 80, of Oak Grove, Missouri, passed away on Friday, February 18, 2022.  Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 25, 2022 at Grace United Methodist Church, 1501 S Harding St. Oak Grove, Missouri.

Dennis was born November 22, 1941 in Stecker, Oklahoma, the son of Ernest and Valtie (Johnston) Stephens.  He was a devoted postal worker that rarely missed work for 30 years in Kansas City, Kansas. Dennis was an active member of the National Association of Letter Carriers, branch #499. He and Jan enjoyed traveling the United States in their RV, he especially loved going to Colorado to see the mountains.  Dennis took pride in growing tomatoes in his vegetable garden. At the end of his workday he enjoyed coming home and feeding the cats, afterwards they would compete with each other to sit on his lap.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; two stepsons; John and Gerald Elder; sister, Zella Mae Davis and brother, J.R. Stephens.

His survivors include his loving wife Jan of the home; a grandson who was raised as a son, Zach Elder; three sons: Scott (Angela) Stephens, Jeff (Jami) Stephens, and Kelly Stephens; two grandsons: Malik Hall, Jayden Stephens; and extended family.

  1. So very sorry for your loss. I enjoyed working with Dennis at Arvest Bank on N Broadway in Gladstone. He loved to push buttons to see who he could rile up. He will be missed. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
