Len was born in Kansas City, MO, on July 4, 1947 to late Leonard W. and Pearl (Barrett) May. Most of his life, he lived in the Kansas City area. On July 26, 1975, Len married Marilyn Jean Koch at Salem Hope Presbyterian Church and was married for 44 years. Family was incredibly important to Len. He invested in Marilyn, his children, and his grandchildren, inspiring and blessing each of them profoundly. He was so proud of lives that they lived. Len loved spending time learning and teaching others, playing cards, telling jokes, and embarrassing his children. In the last few years, he loved going on family vacations and was eager for more time with his family.
Mainly, Len loved sharing his faith. He wanted others to know the profound love God has for them. In his college years, he was involved in Navigators. In his adult life, he attended Cornerstone Church in Blue Springs, MO, for 24 years. Over this time, he had been a small group leader, greeter, and food ministry volunteer. Outside of the church, he mentored children in the public school and volunteered free oil changes for single moms at his transmission shop. Len was known for his handiness. He was servant-hearted and was willing to pitch in. He put in a lot of blood and sweat into other people’s homes or cars without a grumble. He was also courageously generous, at times inviting homeless to come live with them, whether it be a stranger or acquaintance. Through his actions and life, Len demonstrated God’s fatherly love with his family, friends, and others.
Len was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Leonard Alfred May, Kenneth May, and Larry Howard; sister, Dorothy White; and brother-in-law, Bruce Clevenger.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn; three daughters: Rachel Bailey and Gabriel of Independence, Abby Siebert and Benjamin of Parkville, and Christina May of Gladstone; six grandchildren: Jackson, Sawyer, Pierce, and Barrett Bailey, and Elise and Sadie Siebert; brother, Russel “Ed” Howard and Dody of Kansas; sister, Roberta Clevenger of Grain Valley; sister-in-law, Paula Howard of Kansas City; and many nieces and nephews.
