Mary Sue Lewis, 71, of Bates City, MO, passed away Saturday, February 7, 2009 at her home after a valiant battle with lung cancer. Funeral services will be 2 pm Wednesday, February 11th at Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove; burial in Concord Cemetery, Bates City. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Tuesday at Royer’s. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Kansas City Hospice.

Mary Sue was born October 20, 1937 in Smithton, MO, the daughter of Chester & Mildred (Hawkins) McDaniels. She married Warren E. Lewis on December 22, 1953 and he preceded her in death on June 14, 1985. Mary Sue had worked as a cook at the Apple Trail Restaurant in Grain Valley, at a local flower shop, and at the south Casey’s in Oak Grove. Mary Sue was as a past president of the VFW Auxiliary in Buckner, MO. She was a member of the Concord Baptist Church, Bates City.

Her survivors include two daughters: Ann Gaston of Parker, CO and Sharon Cobb of Richmond, MO; three sons: Warren Lewis Jr. and Dennis Lewis, both of Odessa, MO, and Gail Lewis of Bates City, MO; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren; a half-brother: Curtis E. McDaniels; and a half-sister: Rhonda Mahoney.
