Rex Alan Rains, 48, of Grain Valley, MO, passed away Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at his home. Funeral services will be 11 am Saturday, February 21st at Cross Creek Baptist Mission, 1050 SW 15th Street, Oak Grove. The family will receive friends at the church from 9-11 am preceding the service. Immediately following the service, the funeral procession will move to Royer Funeral Home in Grain Valley where a balloon release and Military Honors will take place. Burial will be in Parker Cemetery in Parkerfield, KS at a later date.
Rex was born on June 20, 1960, in Wichita, KS, the son of Kenneth & Geneva (Preston) Rains. He was a veteran of the US Army. Rex had been employed as a webmaster at OOIDA in Grain Valley for the past 10 years. He was a member of Cross Creek Baptist Mission.
Rex loved to read and he was an avid photographer. He was a history buff and enjoyed studying & watching documentaries on both World Wars and the holocaust. He loved to work and play on the computer. He enjoyed watching old black & white movies, especially John Wayne movies. Rex was preceded in death by his father in 1992.
His survivors include four sons: Rex A. Rains II of Rock Ledge, FL, Zach Rains & Noah Rains, both of Dexter, MO, and Jacob Rains of Kansas City, MO; his mother: Geneva Rains and his brother: Scott Rains, both of Arkansas City, KS.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Cross Creek Baptist Mission. An education fund is being set up there for his sons, so please specify on your check whether you’d prefer the memorial to go directly to the church or into the education fund.
