Wayne C. Thomas, 76 of Blue Springs, MO., passed away Friday, March 20, 2009 at St. Mary’s Manor in Blue Springs. Visitation will be from 10:00 – 11:00 am at the United Methodist Church, Oak Grove, MO, with a Memorial Service beginning at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery.
Wayne was born January 20, 1933 in Beaman, MO, on the farm of his parents, Clay and Susie (McMullen) Thomas. He attended Smithton High school in Smithton, MO, and University of Missouri where he received a Bachelors degree in Agriculture. He attended various other colleges including Michigan State University where he obtained his Masters Degree. Wayne married Charlene (Sloan) Thomas on June 2, 1962.
Career achievements include County Agent, Clinton, Mo., Community Development Agent, Branson, MO., Deputy Director then Regional Director, OEO-CSA, then he helped bring the programs to the state level. He opened Kwik Kopy Printing in Blue Springs, MO. He then returned to work in the Community Action Program at the State level. He served in any interim capacity from Family Planning to Director.
Wayne is survived by his wife: Charlene of the home: two daughters, Lissa Hoeprich & husband Dan of Colorado Springs, CO., and Karla Herrington & husband Stacey of Oak Grove, MO; a sister: Shirley Wagenknecht of Stover, MO: two grandchildren: Jessica Lehane Herrington and Michael Herrington; along with many family and friends.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Oak Grove Community Services League. or to the Urban Ranger Corps.
