Bessie Lenora Shawhan, 87, of Holden, MO, passed away Thursday, June 11, 2009 at the Golden Living Center of Independence. Funeral services will be 11 am Tuesday morning, June 16th at Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove; burial in Floral Hills East, Lee’s Summit. The family will receive friends from 10-11 am preceding the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Asera Care Hospice, 11020 NW Ambassador Dr., Ste. 305, KCMO 64135.
Lenora was born on April 22, 1922 in Chapel Hill, MO, the daughter of Ola May (Lynn) & Benjamin “Jack” Cassidy. She married Harold L. Shawhan on December 13, 1941 and he preceded her in death on December 21, 1992. Over the years, Lenora had been employed as a teller at Napoleon Bank, a clerk at G&S Variety Store in Napoleon, and as a bookkeeper at Lake City Arsenal. She also served as a volunteer for several area charities. Lenora was a Baptist, she attended Sunday School and was a member of the WMU.
Her survivors include a son: Wayne Shawhan & wife Jeannette of Riverview, FL; a daughter: Karen Shawhan of Independence; a sister: Addie Frisby of Holden, MO; three grandchildren: Valerie, Jonnathan, and Sonya Shawhan; and four great-grandchildren.
