Colleen J. Burke, 56, of Independence, MO, peacefully went to be with the Lord after a two-week illness of ARDS. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 5, 2009 at the Calvary Baptist Church, Blue Springs, MO; burial in Buckner Hill Cemetery, Buckner, MO. The family will receive friends at the church from 5-8 p.m. Friday, September 4th. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Calvary Baptist Church.
Colleen was born June 2, 1953 in Kansas City, MO, the daughter of Ernest & Bernice (Barlow) Burke. She was a 1973 graduate of East High School, received her Secretarial Degree from Tennessee Temple, and her Secretarial Science Degree from Central Missouri State. She was an employee of Southwestern Bell from July 1978-1984 and AT&T from 1984 until her retirement in August of 2005.
Colleen was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Blue Springs, MO, where she volunteered part time as the church secretary. She was also a member of the Communications Workers of America Local 6450, Telephone Pioneers, and the Tennessee Temple Alumni Association.
Her survivors include a brother: Robert E. Burke (Zenaida) of San Diego, CA; a sister: Janice Littrell (Craig) of Independence, MO; nephews: Markus Littrell (Jenny) of Independence, MO, Bobby Burke of Kansas City, MO, Glenn Crosthwaite (Robin), Jessica & Antonio of Belton, MO; nieces: Lorie Garcia (Edward), & Areyna of Corpus Christi, TX, Cassie Goodman (Zach), Brianna & Alaina of Clever, MO, Roselynn Burke of Independence, MO, Regina Soliz (Zaragoza), Alyssa & Izaak of San Antonio, TX, Velma Galeas (Alex) Jaime, Jessi, & Joel of Sierra Vista, AZ, and Livia Almaraz (Raul), Junior & Moises of San Diego, CA, Aunt Pearl Brammer (Earl) of Live Oak, FL, and Aunt Bea Barlow of Blue Springs, MO; several wonderful and close cousins; many, many special friends, and a beloved church family.
